Albania's President Bajram Begaj, commenting on the tense situation in northern Kosovo, has said no one can question Kosovo's sovereignty and integrity and its right to build and consolidate institutions.
In a Facebook response Monday evening, Begaj has called violence against KFOR unacceptable by Serbs.
“object sharply to the misuse of Kosovo's northern Serb population and unacceptable violence against KFOR peacekeeping troops in Kosovo. No pretext can be used to prevent full implementation of the Brussels and Ohrid Agreement, which shows the right way to resolve open problems and normalise relations between Kosovo and Serbia. No one can question the sovereignty and integrity of the Republic of Kosovo, as well as its right to build and consolidate democratic and multiethnic institutions”, it has written.
Begaj has also called on Kosovo authorities for more patience and co-ordination with partners.
But also, I publicly repeat my brotherly call to the Kosovo authorities for more patience and caution, and especially close co-ordination with our partners”, he wrote.
Since Friday, Serbs in the north have been protesting the entry of new mayors into municipal facilities. Initially, Kosovo police enabled mayors to enter the facility, while on Monday, KFOR intervened on the second day of tensions. In the evening, KFOR reported at least 25 soldiers injured in Zvecan by violent protesters.
