Agreement for Association, Conjufca pessimistic: The sides' positions are diametrically opposed

He says the positions of the parties are diametrically opposed, so he does not expect anything without Serbia democratising. According to Konjufca, what is possible for Kosovo to establish this mechanism without executive competence is unacceptable to Serbia.
“What is possible for Kosovo and what are the red lines for Kosovo, they are unacceptable to Serbia apparently. So so far and incompatible are the positions. So I really don't expect anything without changing Serbia towards democratisation and the state there. What is Serbia so hegemonistic and within coordinates let's say the clergy-nationalistism of Milosevic's time of the 1990s, I do not expect solutions in the sense of an agreement with Serbia. The agreement with Serbia is struck when Serbia changes, not with this current Serbia, which is”, he says.
Praising the dismissal of the management team that has drafted the draft association status, Konjufca says their work has been in line with Serbia's interests.
The “proposed an Association, which is the Serbian republic in Kosovo and very well that were dismissed. This has also been my previous call to dismiss the management team, as it does not represent Kosovo at all. We are state, we will stay state, we are safe on our path and Kosovo institutions cannot represent the interests of Serbia's institutions. What is logical, expected and constitutional is to represent the interests of Kosovo. This was not the case with the management team, which has been assigned since 2018 to this component”, Konjufca adds to kp.
The Speaker of the Assembly stresses that conditioning for establishing association with the return of Serbs to institutions cannot solve problems.
The “Without returning Serbs to institutions cannot continue the process in understanding dialogue, negotiations and conditions that they are now making for association. QUINT's position has been very clear, accepting Kosovo institutions, returning to Kosovo institutions, accepting the constitutional framework in which Kosovo functions, and then moving into other steps. By conditioning and saying that we do not come into Kosovo institutions, but give us first the Association this leads nowhere and thus cannot solve problems”, he points out.
At the Kurti-Vucciq meeting in Brussels on May 2nd, a draft Association status was presented by the management team, already dismissed by the Kosovo government.
After the meeting, Prime Minister Kurti said this draft state is unacceptable to Kosovo, until it announced that it has submitted a draftvision for establishing association.
On the other hand, the European Union's high representative, Josep Borrell, said this draft status for Association is not final, but will be a starting point for further discussions.
