The United States of America (SHBA) welcomes Serbia's decision to organise a military exercise with its global peace partners. So has the US Embassy in Serbia told Free Europe Radio (REL).
We're happy to be part of Platini Wolf”, this embassy said.
Authorities in Serbia have made exemptions from the mortorium for maintaining military exercises with foreign partners to hold the “Ujku exercise of Platini 23”.
It's about international tactical exercises, which include members of the NATO alliance, including the US.
In the American Embassy's response to Radio Free Europe, the United States reportedly recognises military partnership with Serbia and deeply respects the Serbian Army and its leadership.
“We engage in a strong bilateral military and defence partnership with Serbia, focused on our common goals for peace and stability in the region and globally”, the US Embassy's announcement in Serbia said.
It has also been added that joint work builds bonds of friendship and trust that enable both sides to contribute together to peace.
Kremlin: Russia to carefully submit Serbia, NATO exercises
Meanwhile, Kremlin announced that the military exercises Serbia will develop with NATO troops “will not go unnoticed” in Russia.
“As far as training is concerned, we will certainly be following very carefully”, said Kremlin spokesman Dimitry Peskov.
As Beta reports, Peskov added that Belgrade “is under unprecedented pressure to draw Serbia to the side of those who adhere to anti-rus”.
Serbia's Defence Minister Milos Vuchevic has announced on April 5th that in mid-June the “Wuke of Platini” in southern Serbia, in which armies of the United States of America, Serbia and ten partner countries will participate.
Serbia established a mortorium for maintaining military exercises with foreign partners in February 2022, days after Russia launched its aggression against neighbouring Ukraine.
At the time, official Belgrade announced it would not impose sanctions against Russia, but also that Serbia's Army, given the policy of military neutrality, suspended all military exercises with foreign partners, both East and West, until an upcoming decision.
On 5 April, Serbia's Defence Ministry told Radio Free Europe that the mortorium remains in force, meanwhile, Platini's “Wicke” is an exception from that mortorium.
