Waitz Eurodeput: Today is a day of joy for Kosovo

Eurodeput and European Green Party co-chairman Thomas Waitz says today is an important day and joy for Kosovo and its citizens, as that the European Parliament will finally give the green light for visa liberalisation today. “Today is a day of joy for Kosovo and its citizens. [...]

“Today is a day of joy for Kosovo and its citizens. After several years of blockades in the Council, the European Parliament will finally approve visa liberalisation for the youngest in Europe. This step on Kosovo's road to the EU is too late. Greens have been protecting it for years and will continue to support Kosovo's path towards the EU”, Wajitz declares.

Kosovo has been trapped for several years in the Council.

The vote for visa liberalisation by the European Parliament will allow visa-free travel for Kosovars to the EU to up to 90 days, starting in 2024. Kosovo is the last of the Western Balkan countries to receive visa liberalisation.

After today's vote, the decision that Kosovars move freely to EU countries will be signed by representatives of EU institutions; The European Commission, the European Council and the European Parliament.

After that, the publication of the decision on the EU Official Journal remains, with which the date of entry into force of the decision is set.
