On the day of signing in the European Parliament, the EU made it clear that liberalisation applies to legitimate passports issued by Kosovo institutions. But, Vucic says he will talk to the EU and that he will solve it within eight months.
“is being discussed. I can't promise you because it's not up to us, but I believe it will be solved in the next eight months, as long as we have time. So, we have until January 1st to solve that problem and I believe we will solve that problem”, Vuciq said.
As Serbian-language medium “Kosev” writes, there are about 800,000 Serb citizens with Kosovo who still use the passport travel document issued by the Belgrade Co-ordination Directorate. It has been almost 15 years since Serbia issued passports to Kosovo Serbs, but are different from those for the citizens of Serbia.
Even these passports require Schengen visas to travel within the European Union. Deputy Prime Minister Besnik Bislimi has called on Serbian citizens to receive passports issued by Kosovo institutions within eight months.
“Citizens who have passports issued by Belgrade, I hope, will use this eight-month period to get Kosovo regular passports, so that they too can enjoy the benefits of this” decision.
The Kosovo visa rapporteur for the European Parliament, Thjis Reuten, has been asked on the day of the ceremony for these Kosovo Serbs who have passports issued by Belgrade if they can travel freely after the visa liberalisation decision.
Reuten said this could not happen since the law is clear that Kosovo passport holders can travel in the Schengen area, reports Express newspaper.
The legislation is clear. The passports issued by Kosovo authorities. And for those living in Serbia, they already have visas. The decision has been carefully formulated. Kosovo citizens with Kosovo documents will be able to travel freely”, Reuten said.
