Vuciq: Kurti to head northern Mitrovica from April 24th

Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, has said Serbs will not participate in the upcoming local elections in four municipalities in northern Kosovo, and that government formed after that process will not have legitimacy. Asked what the situation would be like for Serbs in northern Kosovo, after the April 23rd elections, Vuciq has told Serbia's Radio Television on April 6th that it will be “negative, as under an occupation”, because “governance will be formed by Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti”.
The “Kurti will run North Mitrovica from April 24th, and just think of those authorities and democracy and legitimacy, with 2 percent of Albanians living there. It will be bad for Serbs, as under occupation, it will be, so people are concerned. What can they do? What am I supposed to do? Shall I send you tanks? I can't defeat NATO, and I don't want us to die. I want things settled in peace, to go towards normalization”, Vuciq said.
He has also criticised Western states for their <x0 use of” for the fact that Kurti has not wanted to postpone local elections, in which Serbs will not participate, following collective resignations from Kosovo institutions in November last year.
Vuciq has said that the “tatic of Pristina authorities is never to create the Association of Serb majority municipalities” and that “a will provoke Serbs every day, with the aim of Serbs provoking something”.
When asked about the Kosovo issue, until the end of his presidential mandate in 2027, Vuciq has said he thinks that “will be in Serbia, and that we will suffer a lot, especially the Serb people in Kosovo and Metohija”.
Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti has said that institutions are making all preparations for organising the April 23rd extraordinary elections in the four northern municipalities: Northern Mitrovica, Zvecan, Zubin Potok and Leposaviq.
The mayors of these municipalities, along with other Serbs, have resigned from Kosovo institutions as a sign of dissatisfaction with the Kosovo Government's decision to reregister cars with Serbian illegal license plates at the RKS Republic of Kosovo.
The extraordinary elections were scheduled to be held on December 18th of last year, but Kosovo institutions have been forced to postpone them, due to the incidents caused, and the international community's calls.
Currently, the biggest political entity against the organisation of these elections is the Serbian List -- the largest Serbian party in Kosovo.
She has said she will not participate in the elections until the two requirements are met: forming the Association of Serb majority municipalities, and withdrawing all special Kosovo Police units from northern Kosovo.
Since 2013, when this party was formed, it has received over 90 percent of the votes from the Serb community, in almost all of Kosovo's elections.
However, the EU observer mission regularly mentions in reports that, the Serbian List has “monopolised political life among Kosovo Serbs”.
The European Union and members of the QUINT group United States, Great Britain, Italy, France and Germany have expressed regret over why the Serbian List, which enjoys official Belgrade's support has not obtained the right to participate in the elections.
