Cremon said the elections held in the north Sunday were in line with Kosovo laws.
“However, I deeply regret that the main political force in northern Kosovo, the Serbian List, has refused to participate in this election and strongly condemns the intimidation of all those who have wanted to run for office or vote Sunday. After a postponement of the elections, the boycott orchestrated by the Serbian government in Belgrade, as well as the intimidation of Serb opposition political leaders, is unacceptable and conflicts with democratic standards. The rhetoric stemming from Serbia's highest instance of Kosovo officials is miserable and should be stopped”, its statement said.
According to her, the current institutional and security vacuum should be resolved by engaging with the local community in northern Kosovo.
The permanent return of Kosovo Serbs to institutions should now be eased and the Kosovo government should enable this return. Work on establishing the Association/United Serb municipalities should be finalised as soon as possible. The EU will work closely with all relevant parties to restore security and normal life for all citizens in these municipalities. Thus the work of EULEX, KFOR and KK proved necessary and commended them for their commitment”, says the European Parliament's Kosovo rapporteur, Violet von Cremon.
