For the first time after independence, 4 northern municipalities will be led by Albanian mayors

For the first time since the country's independence, four Serb-populated northern municipalities, such as North Mitrovica, Zvecani, Zubin Potoku and Leposaviqi, will be led by Albanian Nationalist leaders. According to official results of the Central Election Commission (KQZ), Vetevendosje has won in the northern Mitrovica municipality with the candidate [...]
This result came as a result of the Serb List boycott, which in the past won over 90% of the vote in the northern part of the country. After their boycott, the process was ignored by citizens of Serbian nationalism, making the exit extremely low. According to the CEC, out of over 45 thousand citizens who have the right to vote, the right to vote has used only 1567 of them.
The result has also contributed to the state of Serbia, which has pressured Kosovo Serbs not to participate in the elections. CEC Chairman Kreshnik Radoniqi said the right to vote has been offered to each citizens with the right to vote, and that the election process has developed without any incident.
According to the ongoing information we have received from these municipalities, the election process has been conducted without any problems. The Central Election Commission has offered the opportunity and conditions for all citizens with the right to vote in these municipalities to exploit their constitutional right to elect their representatives and democratic institutions”, Radoniqi has said.
The US Embassy in Kosovo has also reacted to these elections, which have expressed regret over the refusal of some parties to participate in the elections. They have also stressed that they appreciate Kosovo's bid to organise free and democratic elections.
We regret that not all parties used their democratic right to participate in today's elections. Turnout helps to ensure that leaders are representatives of the populations they serve. The vote is a critical freedom of democratic societies. We recognise the efforts of Kosovo election officials to make polling places available to citizens who want to exercise their right to vote, downplaying possible tension points”, the communiqué says.
Meanwhile, according to France's ambassador to Kosovo, Olivier Guerot, the low exit in the elections does not contribute to the political solution, while praising the Kosovo Police, KFOR and EULEX for their professionalism.
The elections with such a small number of voters do not contribute to a political solution. It's a pity some parties didn't participate. A positive point: professionalising the Kosovo Police, KFOR and EULEX. Now is the time to implement the Ohrid Agreement”, France's Ambassador Olivier Guerot has written on Twitter.
After publishing the results, the Vetevendosje Movement has declared that their two candidates who won the elections will rule fairly for all citizens, regardless of nationality or party.
While Democratic Party leader Memli Krasniqi has thanked citizens for voting The PDK and has suggested that the important has been that the process has been orderly and calm. But, according to him, the fact of the small number of citizens they voted on remains disturbing.
The important thing is that today's process was orderly and quiet. However, it remains very disturbing that the situation in the northern part has degraded, which was seen even by low citizens' voter turnout. Now we expect the Government to take on obligations and duties that belong to him to implement civic will and enable the consolidation of institutions in the four northern municipalities of”, Krasniqi has said.
Candidates elected in northern municipalities will have a mandate of about two and a half years. A total of 19 polling stations have served the election process, 6 of them have been in ordinary objects, where elections were held even earlier, and another 13 in alternative objects, or containers.
