The social network “Tikk”, which since 2020 received great momentum of downloads, has become one of the most widely used social networks of citizens, where they spend hours watching on this platform. This app, derived from Communist China, found great support even in Kosovo, where too many videos [...]
This app, derived from Communist China, also found great support in Kosovo, where even videos of many Kosovars became viral, collected millions of views.
But how secure is this app, how much is the data of users being protected, and what are the chances of TikTok being banned in Kosovo?
Information and Private Agency Commissioner Krenare Sogojevo-Dermaku in Telegrafi. com has said they will gather all security institutions to discuss this platform.
The commissioner said some countries have already taken measures to stop using this app.
This case was raised by an MP at the beginning of the week at the Security Commission, we as the Agency are not the only institution that can make a assessment of the risk and whether it should be banned or not. The agency has taken over to gather security and defence institutions instead of making an assessment based on the fact that the European Commission has banned for its employees, as well as England, Italy has already taken steps to stop”, it has indicated.
Sogojevo/Dermak has added further that they will make an assessment, then Government or Parliament can make a decision to prevent TikTok.
After we make an assessment, I'm going to propose to the Government of the country, and only with a Government or Parliament decision can stop this. The decision is made at the state level. There's going to be an action plan, when we're going to meet, but we have something concrete because this case has already been raised,”, she points.
During the interview she also talked about protecting private data, stressing that citizens should not make a lot of publications on social networks, because any publication can lead to identification of a person.
“Private protection starts from the individual himself initially, we should not be too exposed and should not do much publishing and offer our data anywhere. The websites today where we go through shopping, normally the fact that we enter it, they're stored somewhere, and how much their safety is questioned. Most of these pages have privacy policies, we have to read those policies and we know, because they are legal grounds, where if a privacy right is violated or personal data is violated, we can seek and be followed at a higher level, because authorities like the Agency for Information and Privates are counterparts in other countries that we co-operate and follow the case jointly, she said.
On the other hand, she stressed that any citizens who suspect that data is being misused can contact the Agency.
Otherwise, a few days ago at the Security and Defence Affairs Commission has been discussed on the security of TikTok users' data, LVV deputy Dimal Basha raised the issue, saying that many states are banning its use, as China is collecting state data through this app.
