The famous photograph was taken by a correspondent from the newspaper '%Timeʹ in the village of Ivaaj in Kacanik, at Macedonia's entrance on September 3, 1998. During this period, the war in Kosovo had taken on enormous proportions after the Prescas event and the KLA front fights against the Serbian Army were growing.
A large part of the men had joined the Kosovo Liberation Army, leaving their wives with the elderly and children. Among them was Sheriff Luta, then only 22 years old, pregnant, just a few weeks before she was born.
