This decision enables citizens with Kosovo passports to travel visa-free to the Schengen area, which consists of 27 European countries.

Kosovo citizens will be able to travel visa-free for only 90 days, within a six-month period. Visa-free travel is allowed for tours, family issues, or similar ones, and does not imply work permits or other benefits. Kosovo citizens are the only ones in the Western Balkans who cannot freely move into the Schengen area.

Given Tuesday's decision, visa liberalisation will start on opening date of system E TIAS and on no occasion farther than January 1, 2024.

States in Schengen area:

Germany, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lichtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland
