Sociologist: Kosovo risks remaining with less than a million residents

Sociologist Leutrim Sahiti has spoken about the visa liberalisation decision by the European Parliament for Kosovo. Sahiti, has said that the Kosovo state's main concern should now be population migration because with this trend, our country will soon remain less than 1 million people.

After this decision, the biggest concern of Kosovo's state and mine would have to be that Kosovo risks remaining fewer than 1 million. The state of Kosovo to deal seriously with young people because it is alarming. Because statistics are alarming, and with this trend we have Kosovo, it risks being left alone with old people and cemeteries, as the citizen said.”, he said.

The sociologist has also listed the positive aspects of economic visa liberalisation (Canal10).

“Free movement will have effects, not to say consequences, on some plains. The impact will also be on the economy because young people will have the opportunity to connect with businesses there, new businesses will have the opportunity to co-operate with different companies there to exchange goods. The next impact will be society's emancipation, because different categories of society will be able to see more than they have seen in Kosovo so far and it is a good opportunity for social awareness to see what real civilisation is.”, he said.

But with much scepticism, Sahiti sees the way Kosovo will manage this situation, pointing to the risks Kosovo youth may face in the event of mismanagement.

This will also have a negative impact because young people going out can also be victims of trafficking and narcotics. So as much as we have good will be bad, completely depends on how the state will manage this situation and manage to create conditions for youth so that those dreams can be accomplished here.”, he has ended.
