Serbs petition for special units out of the north

The petition, launched two days ago by local Serbs in the country's north at the request for the removal of special police units, has continued on Friday. Until organisers refused to talk to cameras, the connoisseurs of circumstances there warn of increasing the tendency to destabilise the country from the segment of Aleksandar Vuciqi. Wednesday [...]

At noon Wednesday, some local Serbs went to protest in this country.

In addition to protesting the murder of a Serb, they launched a petition for the removal of Kosovo Special Unit police forces.

This petition, supported by the Serbian List, is expected to last several days and will be held in different parts of four northern municipalities.

Tev1 was in Leposavic on Friday, and petition organisers confirmed that they have already moved to different parts of the north with the aim of securing a larger number of signatures.

Unlike his countrymen, this elderly Serb in northern Mitrovica says he has no intention of signing the petition, even though he has heard of it.

“Yeah, I heard about it. I didn't sign it because I don't think I should. I've never had problems with the police myself. I think they've been correct- those with me and me with them. And most of these things are political. And I don't want to be part of it”, he says.

And a dangerous warning about the consequences of the petition is being issued by Professor Nedmedin Spahiu.

But, former Deputy Commissioner for Communities in Northern Mitrovica Emir Azemi, says the petition is not dangerous because, he says, it doesn't matter.

However, he made a call for local institutions.

That the security situation in the north is not at the right level, Parliament head Glauk Konjufca said Thursday.

He said Serb groups are aiming to destabilise this part of the country, ahead of the April 23rd elections.

Until, at the same session, AAK Chairman Ramush Haradinaj called on the heads of institutions for next Sunday's elections to be postponed, due to the potential risk of exacerbating the situation.
