In an interview for ATV, Ambassador Michael Davenport said it is very important to avoid any violent incident and not have efforts to undermine the democratic election process.
I think it's important that voters be given the opportunity to cast their ballot and that it be done peacefully, in a calm manner. I hope the process goes smoothly. As I said, I want the CEC to succeed in running these elections and for them not to be hindered in any way, to be ordinary and peaceful. I think this is the top priority”, Davenport said.
Ambassador Davenport also spoke of not participating the Serbian List in the April 23rd elections.
It would be preferable for all communities to participate fully. Both election candidates and voters, but that is the choice that has been made. It will be important as we move forward, however, that the interests and views of all communities are being taken into consideration and taken under the right of all to defend and that is fundamental. A functional democracy, yes, has to do with democratic elections, but it is also about how society functions and how everyone's rights are respected, as well, between the” elections, Davenport stressed.
O The SEU will have only monitoring role, rather than observers, in the extraordinary local elections in northern Mitrovica, Zvecan, Leposaviq and Zubin Potok.
