In an interview for Czech media “Pravo”, Schwarzenberg speaking of comparisons between the war in Ukraine and Kosovo, has said this comparison is not accurate.

This is not a very accurate interpretation. The West would never have recognised Kosovo if Milosevic hadn't made crazy politics and started doing what we call a transfer, but it's an expulsion. The West intervened only after images of disgruntled people being expelled from their homes appeared on US television”, Schwarzenberg said, broadcast Clankosova.tv.

On the other hand, he showed how during the 80s he was involved in Kosovo, where he says he met with many Kosovars who have shown him the marks on the body by Serb violence.

I am aware that the conflict was complex and not unilateral, and both sides have their share of guilt. I was personally involved there in the '80s. There I met with Kosovars, and I remember well how some of them took off their shirts and showed me the bloody back from the cuts caused by Serbs. But I have also seen Serb houses and stables burned”, he further declared.

“As I say, if Milosevic had not committed atrocities, the West would never accept partition, but there is no doubt that the Kosovo Liberation Army was a good group”, former Czech minister Schwarzenberg said among other things.

In the end, he said Chekhia was among the last countries to recognise Kosovo's independence.
