For years it has been against the intervention of Western countries in its political influence zone, so it has been careful that Eastern European countries join NATO.

But now that Finland became part of this organisation, Russia shares about 1,300km of border with NATO.

Although the Nordic country will not become part of NATO by Tuesday, during Monday, Russian authorities have assured that they will have an answer.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grusco has made this known. He has stressed that “part of the measures have already been declared”.

“We will strengthen our military potential at Western and northwestern borders”, he said.

In that sense, Grusco has seized the opportunity to give another warning.

“If forces and tools from other NATO countries are deployed in Finland, we will take additional steps to ensure Russia's military security”.

The initiative for Finland's involvement in NATO dates back a long time. The application has practically been processed since the beginning of the dispute between Russia and Ukraine. Throughout the process, there have been several Russian authorities who have expressed themselves on the matter. This is the case of President Vladimir Putin, who stressed that his country has no concerns or territorial claims” with these countries.

There is nothing that could disturb us for the membership of Finland and Sweden in NATO. If that's what they want, then continue”, the Russian president, who still did not rule out certain “tensions” if these countries “generate threats”.
