Analyzing a visit to the country by Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu, Bell said Russia “is extending its political power over Belarus”.
He noted Russia training its army in Belarus, adding attacks on Ukraine from Belarus and plans to deploy nuclear weapons in the country.
Bell said that “all this is an excuse for getting more and more Russian troops into Belarusn soil. It's like an invasion, but hidden”.
Belarus's president, Alexander Lukashenko, has named the increased Russian military presence a means to protect the country from Western aggression. On the other hand, the Kremlin has simultaneously attended a union-state agreement that represents Belarusian policy with that of Russia.
