He appeared today at the Federal Court in Boston.
This 21-year-old member of the Massachusetts National Air Guard was arrested by agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on Thursday, April 13th.
Dressed in short pants and a T-shirt, Teixeira was arrested, while helicopters with journalists' teams filmed everything from above.
He allegedly issued very sensitive documents from the US government regarding the war in Ukraine and the allies of the United States of America (SHBA). He was identified as the head of the online chat group, where documents appeared for the first time.
Justice Secretary Merrick Garland said that Teixeira, who was specialising in intelligence activities at the National Guard, will be charged with “taking, maintaining and broadcasting unauthorized” of classified information concerning national protection.
FBI agents took Teixeiran into custody, without incident”, Garland said, adding that the suspect would be issued before the Federal Court in Boston.
Last week, the Justice Secretariat launched a criminal investigation after the case was conveyed by the Pentagon, which is assessing the damage caused by the publication of alleged intelligence data, Reuters reports.
Some of the documents allegedly provide details about military capabilities and problems in the Ukrainian Army, as well as information about US allies, how they are: Israel, South Korea and Turkey.
Reuters has had access to more than 50 documents marked as “Secret” or “teper secret”, but has not independently confirmed their authenticity. It's believed there's more than 100 documents that are running.
Several specific countries have questioned the accuracy of some of the documents, meanwhile, Great Britain has said it has <x0-level serious” of incorrect information.
Also, among the information that appeared are claims that Serbia, as the only European country that has not imposed sanctions on Russia except Turkey, is exporting weapons to Ukraine.
The president of this state, Allexander Vucic, denied these claims, two days after Reuters reported on revealed documents.
American President Joe Biden said on Thursday he's not very concerned about the documents that went public, but it's about why this happened.
Teixeiran has been working on military base and has divided material into a private online group, the Washington Post reported on April 13th.
American officials have not confirmed the authenticity of documents, whose images circulated on social media platforms for weeks and caused alarm at several US allies.
Two members of the group on the online Social Programme platform told the Washington Post that hundreds of pages of material were posted there by a man who told them he was working at an American military base and that he had taken the documents home.
Tens of photos of the documents have been found on Twitter, Telegram, Discard and other sites, though some may have circulated online for weeks, if not months before starting to gain media attention.
American officials have not publicly confirmed that the materials presented in the photo are original and their authenticity could not be immediately verified independently.
The Pentagon says the publication represented the “very serious risk to national security”.
The flow of documents spread US concerns over the future Ukrainian counteroffensive against Russian forces and warned that it had been spying on Israeli and South Korea allies. / REL/
