Qalaj warns two scenarios about elections in the north

MP The PDK, former Kosovo Police Director Rashit Qalaj, has criticised the government's work with particular emphasis on decisions made concerning developments in the country's north. Qalaj in Prime Time has warned incidents this Sunday, the day extraordinary elections are expected for the four mayors of northern Mitrovica municipalities.

The smuggling is there. But because the police are in danger they don't react. If we make an assessment of the security situation, Kosovo police must prepare for any large-scale incidents.”, Qalaj said.

Qalaj cited two scenarios that, according to him, Serbs will act on their basis, the day the elections are held.

He said one of them is that Serbs protest in the same form as the Albanians in the 1990s, as well as that there may be <x0->actions similar to the killing of Serbian politician and liquidating Serbian politicians in the north.

“The scenario -- when a president of a hostile state commands and threatens and threatens northern Serbs not to participate in the elections, it is aimed at having major riots. The other, Dacic had said that the Serb community in the north would act the same as the Albanians in the 1990s. As Oliver Ivanoviqi and others have liquefyed, they can do any such action.”, Qalaj said.

Meanwhile, Serbs and Albanians from northern municipalities will have the opportunity to elect their future mayors. Despite circumstances, they have declared themselves willing to exercise their right to vote. Meanwhile, there are those who say that these elections do not bring change and that their lives do not depend on politics.

It's the only village with Albanians in Zubin Potok. For this, in these elections they are convinced to decide to give their best to elect the mayor.

Residents on this side say not only in these elections, but since 2002 they are always participating in the vote.

We'll go to the elections, big and small, from the age of 18 who have voting rights. The votes will be conducted and I think they'll be successful”, said Aziz Hasani, resident of the village of Caber.

According to Hasan, even through intimidation, the right to vote cannot be denied.

It's not as safe as it is, but as today, tomorrow or tomorrow or the day after tomorrow I guess that's how it would be. But I believe we have a better lead on this”, he said.

And more pessimistic about these elections appear to be residents of the Bosniaks' Quarter in North Mitrovica.

Both Albanians and Serbs say their lives do not depend on political leaders, whether in Kosovo or Serbia.

We expect nothing from these choices, but I have to get out. We don't think whether we're safe or not, we go out and deal with you.

I'm not winning from Kurt or Vucich, but I'm getting these nine fingers that go and work”, said Jovan Jovanovic, resident of the Bosnian Quarter.

Residents of four northern Kosovo municipalities on April 23rd will be able to vote for the political power they will lead in the years ahead.

The two Eden Attici candidates from the Vetevendosje and Betim Osmani Movement from the Civic Initiative say they are campaigning and that the situation in the north is relatively calm.

Attiqi said there is a dose of uncertainty in citizens, but given that there are elections in the north almost every year, the electorate there is tempered with such situations.

“Electorate is used to this situation and we have added the electorate there”, Attic told RTK, according to which the situation there is safer than its showing, as it expressed readiness to run the municipality after Monday.

While Betim Osmani was more skeptical about security, until he demanded that the government be as active as possible in the north. He also said how the initiative has been campaigning for months, with the idea of having as many citizens in the election as possible. He even said that citizens from the Serb community are expected to come to the polls in the north.

The two candidates also spoke of party ideas for the development of municipalities, the return of citizens, housing construction, health development and infrastructure. They said they would try to create bridges of co-operation in the north.
