Population registration process trouble

Kosovo's Statistics Agency is facing several challenges during preparations for the population registration process, expected to take place in September of this year. KSF chief chief chief Ilir Berisha said some of these troubles are the small capacities of human resources in the AKS, procurement procedures and lack of experts [...]
The Kosovo Statistics Agency also emphasises that more than 5 thousand contracts are committed to population registration.
In an interview for KosovoPress, the head of the AKS said that up to these moments they have conducted a series of activities for the population registration process.
The “Data census on the ground is set for the period of 1 September through October 16th of 2023. So far the AK has carried out a series of activities and has prepared a large number of documents, starting with road maps, working groups, activities plan, budgets and so on... But, we are facing challenges such as procurement procedures that are procurable, lack of information technology experts and the capacity of AKS with the number of people we have for managing over 5 thousand contracts that will be engaged in population registration, and this is considered due to the lack of human resources to manage these” contracts, Berisha said.
This important statistical institution is also facing delays in publishing the results of job-power polls in the country, as results of the labour force survey continue to be published a year late by the Kosovo Statistics Agency.
Berisha shows indicators that are bringing these delays, however, stress that monthly publications will be fair.
Meanwhile, in the latest report by the AKS, unemployment in Kosovo in the first quarter of 2022 was 16.6 percent, marking unemployment decline compared to the first quarter of 2021, while inactive power is quite high with 61.4%, with particular focus on women.
And for that, Berisha said the underdeveloped market and diaspora solidarity caused the number of inactive persons to rise.
We remember that in July last year, with 76 votes for, no against and no abstention, the Kosovo Assembly has adopted the Law for the census of the population, family economies and residences.
The last census in Kosovo was done in 2011.
