Francescu, 86, headed a solemn Easter Day mass in St. Peter's sunny square after the institute cold forced him to bypass a service in nature on Friday a preliminary move after his hospital for the bronze at the end of March.
“Help the beloved Ukrainian people on their journey to peace and cast Easter light on the Russian people,” he said.
Since Russia invaded Ukraine in February last year, Francescu has referred at least twice a week to Ukraine and its people as “martified” and has used words such as aggression and cruelty to describe Russia's actions.
