About a year after Isufaj's proposal, the Kosovo president's office has said a decision about the decree or not of the chief state prosecutor will be taken at the end of April.
The deadline for making a decision, according to Bekim Kupina, media adviser to President Vjosa Osmani, relates to judicial procedures opened by the counter-Candids of Blerim Isufaj in the process of electing the chief prosecutor.
“The president has publicly clarified that since there has been judicial contradiction of procedures conducted in the KKP by some of the counterCandids, the president will expect the depletion of all constitutional and legal deadlines that have been available to disgruntled counterCandidists, who are in judicial procedures”, Kupina has said.
“Aphats for such a conflict end at the end of April, so the president will make the decision after this deadline is exhausted, because the opposite would be the intervention in the independence of the justice system”, Cupina has declared.
On April 6th of last year, the Kosovo Prosecutorial Council had nominated Blerim Isufaj for the position of chief state prosecutor.
The Kosovo Prosecutorial Council (KPK) had said the selection process was “perfectly legitimate”, despite objections the process had faced by civil society organisations and foreign embassies in Kosovo.
The KKP had claimed to have carried out all the previous procedures and, in conclusion, proposed appointment to the head of state, Blerim Isufaj”. The procedures, according to the KKP, are in line with legal and underground acts in force.
Last week, the KKP asked the president to urgently address the proposal for the decree of Blerim Isufaj in the position of chief state prosecutor.
