Opposition parties in Kosovo are sceptical of Kosovo's membership in Council of Europe ( This year. The three opposition parties, P The DK, LDK and AAK criticise the executive for lack of strategy and lobbying, when next month it becomes 1 year since Kosovo has submitted its membership application in the KiE. On the other hand, the Council of Europe has not returned answers to whether Kosovo's application will be considered at the Committee of Ministers meeting in May of this year.
Democratic Party of Kosovo MP Ariana Musliu-Scheshi tells Kosovo that the reluctance to examine Kosovo's application for membership in the KiE is standing in countries that have recognised Kosovo's independence, along with non-recognitional countries.
The opposition MP, who is also a member of the Assembly of Parliamentary Assembly of the KiE, stresses that there are countries with great power that are not supporting Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe.
Criticising the government for the post-accession approach to the Council of Europe is also the member of LDK leadership, Xhafer Tahiri, who says the MPJD has not been active to lobby for KiE membership.
Meanwhile, AAK deputy Time Kadrijaj says the government has had to be more persistent to secure votes for KiE membership.
However, she adds that now is the right moment for membership in the Council of Europe.
However, Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Minister Donika Grovalla is optimistic that Kosovo will join the Council of Europe within months.
It last week before MPs declared that the votes have been secured and should not spend much time considering Kosovo's application for membership in the KiE.
Kosovo has applied for membership in the Council of Europe on 12 May 2022. The application is first examined by the Committee of Ministers and then given the final word by the Parliamentary Assembly, which is made up of national representatives of member states. The admission takes place with the vote of 2/3 of the majority. /Kosovo pres/
