Ahaz told him that Serbia is not interested in integration into the European Union, as connection with the Russian federation is deep.
But unlike Abazi, the connoisseur of political affairs, Gazmir Raci, thinks. According to him, Serbia has started working on opening chapters for membership and that the Ohrid Agreement accelerates EU integration.
Ahaz insists that due to these ties Serbia has not imposed sanctions to date on Russia and continues to consider it a strategic partner.
I think Russia and Serbia's interest is to declare Kosovo a failed international project, with all possible forms they will try to prolong processes. I don't think that Serbia is rapidly interested in the European Union, this is an illusion that has been fed all over, but Serbia wants to remain Russia's strategic partner for the Balkans, and the Slavic world bridge between the EU and Russia on the other side. That is why he has not imposed sanctions until now”, Abazi said.
“All conversations, scriptures, letters communicated between Russia and Serbia, including last year's UN September agreement between Russia and Serbia, clearly indicate that we have to do with a partnership that is really challenging the international community's intervention in Kosovo, subsequently, even in Bosnia and Herzegovina”, Abazi said further.
Raci says Kosovo is interested in membership as soon as possible, not excluding even Serbia that has started working in this direction.
He even says it is likely that in the next 10 years all Western Balkan countries can become members of the European Union, the EO reports.
The Ohrid Agreement and Brussels', of course, accelerate the journey of Kosovo and Serbia to the European Union, so Kosovo is very committed to quickly joining the EU, and Kosovo's application for candidate country status I believe is within that state spirit that all institutions are engaged to meet the criteria at this stage. Copenhagen criteria are also very important for membership in the European Union, and among them are good neighbourly relations, regional co-operation, peace and shared progress in various regional initiatives”.
Serbia is also aiming for membership in the European Union because it is negotiating some elements for membership, even though it has been reported that no chapter has been closed and no new chapter is opened within the framework of European Union-Serbia talks”.
There are some discussions under the Berlin Initiative that are more in the forms of analysis of various European institutions where it can be expected that perhaps in the next 10 years, all six Western Balkan states can become members of the European Union and if there is such a common approach, I think it is a better approach, due to circumstances and reports that states have between them. They should all be treated together because imagine Serbia entering Kosovo, what problem Serbia could cause when we could be close to membership”.
