North elections: Why did CEC members ask for more information from the police?

Today at 11:00 p.m. it was meant to start the CEC meeting, but spokesman Valmir Elezi at a news conference has indicated that the meeting was postponed for tomorrow. He said the postponement has been made since CEC members “considered” that more information was needed on points that were on the agenda.

“We have considered that more information is needed regarding the security assessment of polling stations, given that we are obliged to open polling stations as close as possible to citizens' settlements”, he said.

Elshani said they have not received recommendation from competent bodies for polling stations to open in the courtyards of police stations.

He said they have sent the polling stations list to the Kosovo Police and received answers but have requested additional information.

We have already sent the list of polling stations and are awaiting assessment and recommendations. We have received an answer, but we've requested additional information on polling stations where the usual elections were held”, Elshani said.

We remember that on April 23rd the extraordinary elections for mayors of northern Mitrovica, Zvecan, Zubin Potok and Leposaviqi will be held and early elections for municipal assemblies in Leposavic and Zvecan.

CEC Certificates Final voter List for North Elections

At the April 6th meeting, the CEC has certified the final voter list for the extraordinary election for chairmanship in four municipalities: Northern Mitrovica, Leposaviq, Zvecan and Zubin Potok, as well as the two municipal assemblies: Zvecan and Leposaviq, which will be held on April 23rd.

This list contains 45,095 voter names, or 1,345 more voters, compared to the 2021 local elections.
