LDK's Rukiqi shows government's next failure

In the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), the deepening trade deficit is considered problematic over the two years under the leadership of the Vetevendosje Movement. From this party say Serbia has already become Kosovo's leading trading partner, unlike what Albin Kurti had said before coming to power when he had promised to [...]
Berat Rukiqi of the LDK says that although this government had promised to increase local products to replace imported products, it emphasises that in these two years of this leadership no politics or decisions have been seen in this direction.
According to Rukiqi, during this time, the trade deficit has increased for 2 billion euros.
“We see this deepening trade deficit as problematic, Kosovo has had trade deficits, but never at the level we now have, especially knowing that we have a government that has come with promises that will focus on the growing focus of local production in replacing imports and policies that are functioning in reducing trade deficit. What we're seeing in the last two years, we're seeing 2 billion more trade deficits at a time when there are particular segments of government tend to interpret export growth numbers or economic growth that we're seeing that they haven't produced any effect on that broad economic mirror of the country and for us it's disturbing, especially if we constantly see inactions or actually we see neglect, few decisions, little politics or anything, and not talk about any economic reform or economic content”, he said.
Former head of the Kosovo Economic Ode, Berat Rukiqi, said that despite expectations even in Kurti governance, Serbia continues to remain the country's main trade partner.
He said the first quarter trend of imports from Serbia suggests that by the end of this year imports from the northern neighbour will exceed 400m euros.
Rukiqi also showed some of the policies Kosovo executive must pursue to lower the trade deficit.
The Democratic League of Kosovo has been constantly critical of Qevri Kurti's calling it unable to find solutions for successive crises and is making life difficult for citizens.
