The Kosovo Olympic Committee (KOK) has announced the candidacy of this prestigious race after seven years from now.
The deadline for application for the Mediterranean Games for 2027 and 2030 expired on March 31st, and on that occasion Portugal ran for the Mediterranean Games in Plazh in 2027, and Kosovo three years later.
The International Committee of the Mediterranean Games (ICMG) announced that the KOK should hand over the candidacy file by the end of June, while the ICG Accounting Commission will already organise inspection visits to Kosovo.
In this regard, KOK President Ismet Krasniqi held a joint conference with Prime Minister Albin Kurti.
Among other things, Kurti announced that the agreement has been reached with Albania so that this sports event can take place on the Albanian coast, for sports seeking access to the sea.
Kosovo's prime minister also said the organisation of the Mediterranean Games in Kosovo will mark the historic moment.
The organisation of the 2030 Mediterranean Games in Kosovo will mark the historic moment of local sports development and not only, considered that the only Mediterranean Games organised in the Balkans are those in 1979 in Croatia. The 2030 Games mark the 21st edition of the multisport event that brings together sportsmen and citizens of 26 countries, of three continents affected by the waters of the Mediterranean Sea. While Kosovo is surrounded by land and mountains, for all sports seeking access to the sea we have agreed with Albania that will be organised on the Albanian coast. The Kosovo government has clearly identified the sports development vision in our country. As I said before, sports and physical activity are our top priority. The concept of organising the Mediterranean Games in Kosovo envisions the extent of organisation across Kosovo's entire territory, with particular emphasis on the country's 7 largest municipalities. Through this concept we will ensure a lasting heritage of this investment and at the same time the impact will be felt in every corner of our country”, Kurti said.
Kosovo Olympic Committee Chairman Ismet Krasniqi thanked Prime Minister Kurti and Sport Minister Hajrula Ceku for backing him to run for organising the 2030 Mediterranean Games.
