Kosovo, Serbia meet 2 May in Brussels, details known so far about meeting

The meeting, expected to be held in the evening hours, is the first political summit after the reconciliation in Ohrid on the road to implementing the agreement, which was reached 27 February in Brussels.

US State Department adviser Derek Chollet wrote after a telephone conversation with Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vucic, that he expects a constructive meeting and progress in dialogue, specifically on forming association.

The management team for drafting the charter of association consisting of four members of the Serb community, including a Serbian MP, has already started working on drafting the statute, which is expected to be presented at the negotiating table.

Local Power Management Minister Elbert Krasniqi wrote that under a 2020 decision, it is envisioned for the Management Team to be co-ordinated with its ministry and told it. But, this team, he said, has not received an invitation for a meeting.

Kosovo Parliament Speaker Glauk Konjufca said that not reporting on the management team is irresponsible access to the country's institutions.

“I do not expect anything good from a leader of this management team, which is deputy of Aleksandar Vucic and Aleksandar Vucic's MP cannot write part of the institutional adjustment of the Republic of Kosovo, this is ABC of our public and state interest”, he said.

Konjufca said the management team should consist of people of Kosovo who do not in any way represent Serbia's interest. He said Kosovo will not accept anything from this team that is at odds with the Kosovo Constitution.

“They have signed the Association Agreement in 2015, but the highest is our Constitution, the highest is our Constitutional Court which has brought it down. So if we start by this principle, if we keep this direction even the manager team's opportunity and (Aleksandar) Vucic to harm Kosovo if we keep our interests, if we don't compromise with our constitution, their space is actually eternal to harm Kosovo”, said Mr. Konjufca.

The leaders of Serbia and local Serbs in northern Kosovo say the condition for the return of Serbs to Kosovo institutions is the founding of the Serb majority municipalities' association, and on April 23rd boycotted elections organised by Kosovo authorities in the Serb majority-inhabited north.

The northern Mitrovica municipal framework, where the majority are representatives of the Albanian community following the departure of Serb representatives from Kosovo institutions yesterday approved a demand to open for the free movement of the main bridges over the Iber River, which also marks the line of division with the South Mitrovica municipality.

That requirement prompted the reaction of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, who said Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, with this request wants to distance Serbs from Kosovo, and that he is wanting conflicts at any cost.

The main bridge over the Iber River, since the post-war has divided inhabited South Mitrovica with Albanians and the Serb-inhabited north, while still remains closed to moving cars. Its opening was part of the agreement reached in 2015 between Kosovo and Serbia, but has never been implemented.
