Kosovo offered support, friendship, Ukraine abstained

Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, Kosovo has been positioned vocally in its pursuit, to solidify following the Russian attack, but also to establish reports as this country is now in major trouble São has recognised independence. After more than a year of Kosovo's unprecedented support to her, Ukraine, has testified that she has not taken any major steps in relation to the country in need of her recognition.
Ukraine is a member of the Council of Europe and has certainly voted for the expulsion of Russia when it brutally attacked him last year. But now that Kosovo is opening the way for full membership, Ukraine has not been persuaded to support, even for Russia's “inat”.
Ukraine has voted yesterday in connection with the launch of Kosovo's membership procedures at the Council of Europe. Her vote has not been against, but its abstention.
In Kosovo, there have been reactions to social networks, showing disappointment with that position of Kyyv in Strasbourg.
But neither in Serbia are they satisfied.
Serbia's Foreign Affairs Minister, Ivica Dacic, said he was surprised by Ukraine's voice, because “Serbia has condemned the violation of the territorial integrity of this state in all world resolutions”, but Kyiv abstained.
Media in Belgrade have named the Ukraine vote yesterday and of several other countries that recognise Kosovo's independence as treason.
“Ukrainian, Armenia and Greece betrayed Serbia”, said in one of the headlines of Serbian newspapers.
Serbia had competition for Ukraine's refusal to recognise Kosovo as a state. After Russian aggression on Ukrainian territory, Serbia is one of Europe's only countries that has not sanctioned its major ally, Russia. Kosovo, meanwhile, has offered comprehensive support to Ukraine the same as its most Allied states, sheltering Ukrainian journalists in Pristina. He has also offered seats to 5,000 refugees.
And, thought, Ukraine would read the approach of two Balkan states and ease its stance on Kosovo. But with what was seen yesterday in KiE, Ukraine has moved, but not enough to accept Kosovo as a state.
In the Council of Europe's Committee of Ministers, 33 states have voted in favour of accepting Kosovo's application for membership in the KiE, seven have voted against, five have abstained, while one state, Armenia, did not vote at all.
With this step, Kosovo completed its first phase of membership in the Council of Europe.
After that, the Parliamentary Assembly will discuss and vote at a next meeting for a report that it will prepare for itself. The report could be considered in June or October.
Kosovo applied for membership in the Council of Europe on 12 May 2022.
