With proposal by President Osmani, the Kosovo government days ago set today's date as the day that will be dedicated to survivors of sexual violence during the last war.
April 14th corresponds to the infamous date of 1999 when Vasfije Cranqi Goodman, then 16 years old, was kidnapped by a Serbian policeman and sent to the village of Babost, where he was sexually violated.
April 14 as the Day of Survival has been praised as an important moment in the record of truth, while also marking symbolic recognition, which is important in the full integration of wartime sex violence survivors.
President Osmani said the April 14th note would contribute to maintaining collective memory, while citing the need for solidification with survivors of sexual violence.
We recall that during the last war in Kosovo, some 20,000 people have been victims of sexual warfare. The lives of all these people changed forever. Just 14 April changed the life of Vasfije Krasniqi, who was forcibly kidnapped and violated by Serb forces. She mustered up the courage to share the truth with the whole world. Through her confession, she became the voice of all survivors of sexual violence during the recent war in Kosovo”, President Osmani has said, among other things, in the proposal to the Government of the Republic of Kosovo that April 14th be marked as the Day of Sex Violence Survivors.
In this day's footnote, the CRC and the platform member organisations “become my voice”, in collaboration with the President's Office of the Republic of Kosovo, today will organise the march: In support of survivors of sexual violence during the Kosovo war.
March will begin at 12: 00 p.m. from Ibrahim Rugova Square to continue to the Heroin monument, where the initiative “14 will be presented. April”
