KFOR writes that all the time has remained in close contact with all sides and has monitored the situation on the ground during election day.
This is based on UN Security Council Resolution 1244 of 1999 to ensure a safe and secure environment and freedom of movement for all people living in Kosovo”.
KFOR's “Commander remains in close contact with all relevant actors, including the EU, the UN, the OSCE and representatives of Kosovo institutions and the Armed Forces of Serbia”, the announcement said.
In turn, according to KFOR, normalising relations between Pristina and Belgrade is essential for lasting security throughout Kosovo and stability in the Western Balkan region.
For this purpose, it is essential that both sides avoid escalating actions and rhetoric and begin to implement their commitments in the EU-brokered dialogue, fully and as soon as possible, in order to rely on the important achievements already made”, it is further said.
In the end, KFOR's mission stresses that it continues to implement its UN-related mandate and ensure the necessary security framework in order to move ahead of the dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade, mediated by the EU.
