In his speech after the meeting, Riztuccia has said Geoana and all ambassadors have reaffirmed their strong support for the “mission under these important circumstances for Kosovo's future and for the stability of the region”.
He mentioned three key KFOR points. Among them, Riztuccia said the mission he heads would provide support for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue in Brussels.
“the first: KFOR remains completely focused on its daily implementation of the UN-led mandate. Second: Our mission is based on conditions, not calendarally oriented. His future coach is subject to a decision by the North Atlantic Council ʹ NATO's decision-making body. Third: KFOR will continue to work closely with the European Union and provide necessary security frameworks for the EU facilitated dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina to move forward”, the KFOR commander said.
Furthermore, he said the mission he heads welcomes the Ohrid Agreement between Kosovo and Serbia, while calling for the obligations agreed on by both sides to be implemented.
“We welcome the EU-launched agreement to normalise reports between Kosovo and Serbia. It is now essential that both sides begin implementing their obligations fully and as soon as possible. And avoid breaking up important achievements that have already been made”, Ristuccia stressed.
Among other things, he said that as KFOR commands, he will continue to play his role in supporting all efforts aimed at creating long-term security for future generations.
“I will do this in full co-operation with all relief actors and all my counterparts, including the EU, the UN, the OSCE, representatives of institutions in Kosovo, and security organisations in Kosovo, and with Serbia's Chief of Staff of Armed Forces<1>, the KFOR chief argued.
In the end, KFOR Commander Major General Angelo Ristuccia said KFOR will continue to carry out its mission and is fully prepared in accordance with its UN mandate to act if stability, security and freedom of movement are jeopardised for the benefit of all people living in Kosovo, and for the good of security throughout Kosovo and regional stability.
