KFOR commander before elections in the north: We will react if calm breaks

“KFOR will continue to carry out its mission and is fully prepared, in line with its UN mandate, to act, if stability, security and freedom of movement are threatened, for the benefit of all citizens living in Kosovo, for the sake of security throughout Kosovo, and for the benefit [...]
General Riztuccia met at NATO headquarters with Alliance Secretary-General Mircea Geoana, as well as with all ambassadors of NATO members and partners of other countries that have troops in KFOR.
“They stressed their strong support for the mission at this important crossroads for Kosovo's future and stability of the region”, Rictia has said in a video he led the mission to the media.
From Brussels, Riztuccia once again welcomed the Agreement on Normalising Relations between Kosovo and Serbia.
“Now it is essential that both sides begin to implement their commitments fully and as soon as possible and avoid undoing the important achievements that have already become”, he has said.
He has also stressed that he as KFOR commander will continue to play his role in supporting efforts aimed at creating permanent security for the coming generations.
This will be done in full co-ordination with all relief actors, including the EU, the UN, the OSCE and representatives of Kosovo institutions and its security bodies”, Ristica has said.
The meeting, which Risticca has held in Brussels with NATO's top leaders, has been held three days before holding local elections scheduled in northern Kosovo.
Serbs have indicated they will not participate in these elections, while Kosovo authorities confirm the elections will be held.
In diplomatic margins, the election issue is considered to be a hot political and security issue.
