On Thursday, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Taani confirmed that Italy will take over this mission.
This role is assigned to Karabinier General Giovanni Pietro Barbano. Taani said this appointment “is good news” and “satisfactory” for Italy after “indicates that the results are achieved by team work”, broadcast Klankosova.tv.
Italy has sent 23 members of Karabiniers for operations in Kosovo.
Rome currently supervises KFOR. Media in Italy write that Karabinies guard the most critical areas in Kosovo, such as the town of Mitrovica, divided between Albanians and Kosovo Serbs.
Rome's efforts, media write, enter the context of the European diplomatic mission to encourage dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia.
The Italian government has moved to stabilise the relationship between Kosovo and Serbia and to lead Western Balkan countries towards European integration.
Finally, Italian Foreign Minister Tayan chaired a ministerial meeting over the Western Balkans aimed at consolidating Italy's role in the region's EU accession process, the process that has accelerated following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
