After voting in the Council of Europe for Kosovo's membership in that international institution, for which Greece abstained, this state could change its earlier stance and recognise Kosovo's independence, is the main news in the media under Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq's control, Oslobodjenje writes.

That indirect suggests Georgios Karougalos, the former head of Greek diplomacy, who says the government in Athens suddenly changed its strong stance regarding Kosovo's non-recognition. According to him, Greece, without explanation, has voted differently in the Council of Europe from other countries that oppose Kosovo independence.

Cartoougalos adds that such a decision by Greek authorities is bad and does not contribute to what, he says, should be the country's state policy.

Our country should always promote peace and stability in the Balkans, supporting mutually acceptable steps and solutions. The government's decision to vote for Kosovo's accession to the Council of Europe to differentiate from other European Union countries that do not recognise Kosovo, such as Spain, Romania and particularly Cyprus that voted against it does not contribute to that goal. This stance has not been discussed with political forces in our country, though it changes, without explanation, Greece's firm stance on Kosovo's status. At the same time, this weakens the role of the mediator Greece must have in the region”, Cabugalos points out.
