Gervailla: Long-term solution is mutual recognition between two countries

Minister Gervalla also spoke of Swedish Foreign Minister Tobias Billström's visit, which she said has also come as EU representative and has welcomed the Ohrid Agreement, where she announced that during her meeting, the association has been addressed. Regarding dialogue with Serbia, Minister Grovall stressed that our partners believe there is a chance for a serious agreement with Serbia and that Kosovo has been seriously interested in reaching agreement on normalisation of relations, though, as she put it, it is not that we expect any great friendship with our neighbour, but, she added, every attempt is worth a normal behaviour between the two neighbouring states.

“Kosovo is not recognised as a country that does not keep its word, so we do well to think about what we declare because we cannot act like Serbia, which promises 5 times a day and does not keep any of them”, said Minister Grovalla, until she highlighted her own experience, as a person who has developed dialogue with the neighbouring state, and who, although agreed with the agreement, has denied without spending 24 hours of reaching the agreement that had to do not repent Kosovo's membership in international mechanisms.

“We do dialogue with our partners, because if our partners declare that there is a chance, then we would be the last to not use this chance, but we do not hesitate to express our pessimism towards Serbia because we have long experience with it and that its behavior only reinforces our scepticism”, Minister Gervala stated among other things.

Gervala: Red years of association, violation of sovereignty and state functionality

The “Red Years for Association is violation of sovereignty, as well as violating the functionality of the Republic of Kosovo. These are two points that in any form of negotiations with internationals we will not allow to be violated”, Minister Gervala said.

She added that there is no pledge of Kosovo institutions in implementing association with those executive elements that violate the functionality of the state, rather there is a commitment to finding a format where the Serb Majority Committees could be organised, which do not violate the country's sovereignty and functionality, because “these are preconditions that we have entered into negotiations”.

And for the 5 non-recognition states of our state, Minister Gervala said no one can guarantee their recognition, because they are sovereign states, but which guaranteed its maximum efforts for achieving recognition by, at least, the four NATO member states.

It has lasted too long the visa liberalisation process towards Kosovo, but we must look forward to being prepared for the January 2024 date, as well as to do a good information campaign regarding recognition of the significance of visa liberalisation, what is not visa liberalisation, that our citizens are prepared and not face various obstacles.

So Kosovo Foreign Affairs Minister Donika Grovalla-Svarc in RTK Prime stressed that sometimes meeting formal conditions is not enough for such a process of visa liberalisation, where, among other things, he mentioned the fact that Kosovo citizens have paid the price of poor experiences from neighbouring states in terms of this process.

However meritive for this act are citizens of the Republic who have never renounced confidence in such a result, so it is an act with which our citizens have been rewarded”, Kosovo Foreign Minister Donica Grovalla-Svarc said.

She added that it is good that there will no longer be long lines in front of the embassies of our citizens and that it will later be January 1st, 2024.

Minister Gervalla thanked the Czech Presidency for, she said, having played considerable influence on visa liberalisation, which has insisted that an exact date be set when visa liberalisation is implemented.

It further clarified the effect of visa liberalisation, where through this document our citizens will be able to travel for different purposes, in human character, in achieving scientific goals, in establishing knowledge of different spheres and businesses and so on.
