German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius dismissed the possibility of sending German warplanes to Ukraine.
He made comments at a meeting with Western allies at the American air base, Ramstein, in Germany.
However, said Pistorius, Germany can provide Ukrainian pilots with planes that can operate immediately.
The “is not like moving from one car to another”, he said, referring to differences between combat aircraft of both countries.
German “Tornadot” and “Eurolighters” ) two types of fighter aircraft have different capacities than those needed in Ukraine, he said.
The West is helping Ukraine with weapons since Russia has begun its invasion in February of last year.
Months ago, Germany sent its war tanks to Ukraine, Leopard.
These tanks are one of the best performance models in the world.
About 2,000 of them are scattered among the allies in Europe, but all their export licenses are Germany.
Ukraine's president, Voldymyr Zelensky, has asked the West for both fighter planes and long-range missiles to fight the Russian invading forces.
The United States has also refused to send such weapons to Ukraine for fear they can escalate the situation. / REL
