Finland gets NATO member tomorrow

Secretary - General NATO, Jens Stolenberg, has confirmed the news of the Finnish Presidency that this country will join the Alliance. Finland will deposit its membership instrument in the North Atlantic Treaty in the American government in Brussels on Tuesday, April 4th, before the start of the NATO foreign ministers' meeting. Finland will deposit its membership instrument in the North Atlantic Treaty in the American government in Brussels on Tuesday, April 4th, before the start of the NATO foreign ministers' meeting.

Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto makes the deposit. The flag-building ceremony to celebrate Finland's NATO membership will take place at NATO headquarters after the deposit of the membership document.

PRAYING PRESIDNCE:

Finland will become a member of NATO's defence alliance on Tuesday, April 4th, 2023. Republika President Saul Niinistö will travel to Brussels and participate in the formal membership ceremony organised at NATO headquarters.

President Niinistö and Secretary General NATO Jens Stoltenberg will give speeches in the event. Before the start of the event, the president and secretary-general have a bilateral meeting and a joint press conference.

Besides President Niinistö and Foreign Minister Haavisto, Defence Minister Antti Kakkonen will also attend the flag-building ceremony.
