Albania's prime minister, Edi Rama, said relations between Kosovo and Serbia are the best they have ever been, but stressed that closing the dialogue between the two countries would be to close a chapter of conflicts in the region. Speaking at Greece's “Delphi 2023, the world affairs”, which is being held, Rama said that the entire Western Balkans are in a much better situation because countries speak to each other, unlike years ago.
“Dialogue Kosovo- Serbia would say it's the issue that remains a big issue, and resolving this issue means closing a chapter forever, a chapter of many chapters of blood and conflict. This is something very important and strategic. However, even as far as this particular element -- this particular issue -- relations between Kosovo and Serbia have never been as good as they currently are. So they're very good relationships relative to how much these relationships have been before. However, there is still much to be done to change this” relationship, Rama said.
Speaking of the lack of stability in the region due to Russian influence, Rama said Albania and Kosovo are both Western Balkan countries, where there is no Russian influence.
When it comes to the geopolitical aspect and international policy of the Western Balkan countries, we have a very complex picture. We have 3 NATO member states, Albania, Northern Macedonia and Montenegro, but Albania has no Russian influence, while Montenegro and North Macedonia have a disturbing Russian influence. On the other hand, we have Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo. Kosovo is like Albania, it is completely harmonised in the same line as the United States and the EU, they have no Russian influence, while Serbia or Bosnia have a lot of Russian influence. Not only is it about governance here, but it's also about the population of”, Rama followed.
Rama said Vladimir Putin's popularity in Serbia is from 65%-80%, while Aleksandar Vuciq has difficulty sanctioning Russia because the Russian president's popularity is greater than that of the Serbian president himself.
