Dutch MP in the European Parliament, Thojs Reuten, is expressing disappointment with the European bloc's soft policy towards Serbia.
According to Reuten, Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq views the EU only as ATMs.
“The states of members of the European Union and the European Commission must make it clear that it can no longer behave this way. On the one hand, he undermines the dialogue process by giving strong comments that he has not signed the agreement with Kosovo, and on the other hand, he accepts huge funds from the European bloc. The Serbian president is seeing the EU as ATMs, and this must be over. Furthermore, Serbia's government has yet to refuse to impose sanctions on Russia for military aggression in Ukraine, so it is time for him to choose which way he will go”, Reuten said.
The Eurodeput has also commented on the latest agreement between Kosovo and Serbia.
He says convinced that this agreement will eventually lead to recognition of Kosovo's independence from the neighbouring state.
It is clear that the agreement in the future leads to recognition of Kosovo's independence from Serbia, but now it is time for both sides to begin with implementing the agreements reached. For Kosovo, especially it was not easy to comply with those provisions of the agreement, but showed readiness for compromises with Serbia”, he said.
On the other hand, Reuten stresses that there will not be a Republika Srpska within Kosovo.
There is already a Serbian Republic in the Balkans, and that is a lot. A Serbian republic within Kosovo will not be allowed to become vague in opinion with the 7th article of the agreement, which is about something else. That story won't happen again. Kosovo does not have to create something that poses a danger to its sovereignty”, the Dutch Eurodeput added.
All in the end, the Eurodeput has called on the five European Union countries to change their stance and recognise Kosovo's independence. /tv1
