Last year the Ministry of Education had allocated a grant of 1m and 700 thousand euros to health-inflicted teachers, who benefited about 300 teachers. But for this year it is still not known whether support has continued for them, while the Ministry of Education has returned no answers to the issue.
Many educators who have health problems have indicated that they need financial support because their treatment costs a lot. They refused to talk about their personal reasons, but outside Radio's microphone, they indicated they had welcomed the Ministry's decision last year on support, which has facilitated coverage of the problems. Meanwhile, the Education Union, which advocates the rights of teachers, has consistently called for the work to be eased for this category of teachers. Union Chairman Nundman Jasharaj told Radio Kosovo that last year the Ministry of Education provided 1m and 700 thousand euros to support these teachers.
“Understanding has been for them to deal with their diseases, recovery, while new colleagues who were unemployed come instead. This started out well. This year we have no information and there are some remarks in some municipalities that this is not happening. I hope August continues this act we applauded last year. I hope that even in 2023, THE opportunity to share enough tools is because these teachers have no opportunity because their health is heavy. Those in the class had gone to keep their job and to maintain their salary to feed their children”, Jasharaj said.
Jasharaj, said these teachers should be relieved of duty, receive pay, and deal with their illness. While he stressed that according to data received from the DKA, the number of health - care teachers could be around 400.
Meanwhile, Youth Qehaja, from “Institute Edgood”, said teaching welfare is institutional responsibility.
“Learning with health problems present in the education system, should be supported, continued to support and have a sustainable legislation that guarantees this support. We dare not impose on any ill - health teacher to introduce in the classroom. We are interested in the well - being of every teacher, but at the same time, the increased quality of teaching in class”, Qehaja said.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education has not returned answers to Radio Kosovo, if it will continue supporting the health-diseased teachers. Last year, he shared the 1m-700-euro grant, while promising to work on the legal infrastructure so that each teacher can do his job without health concerns.
