Hashim Thaci's defence lawyer, Gregory Kehoe, in his opening remarks said his client had no motive for committing the crimes he was charged with.

“He knew that success The KLA depended on international support, especially from the US”, he said, citing some conditions that the US had imposed on it. U n CK's for its operation, which included him not attacking civilians.

Kehoe rejected the specialised prosecutors' opening statement given during Monday.

According to him, they lacked the context of the war when allegedly crimes were committed.

“The ZPS wants you to believe that there was a functioning command structure with effective control. This is far from the truth. The facts of what happened on the ground we want to put into context”, he said.

Kehoe said Thaci has admitted that crimes have been committed during the war by several individuals, but rejects prosecution charges that these crimes have been committed on the basis of a KLA-led policy.

“It rejects the SPS claim that they were committed on the basis of a general staff policy or that there has been systematic and widespread crimes”.

According to Thaci's lawyer, Serbia has committed crimes in Kosovo that have often had revenge based.
