Central Election Commission Chairman Kreshnik Radoniqi has issued a statement to the media from a polling centre in the north.
He said the election process is going smoothly and that there is no problem. Radoniqi called on citizens of northern municipalities to exercise their right to vote.
I as the leader of the CEC, along with members Arian Elshani, Sami Kurteshi and Chief Chief Chief Burim Ahmetaj, came to visit the polls that have been opened over time and saw the process going smoothly, no problem. I also want to invite all citizens of the northern municipalities to come to the polls in order to exercise their right to vote and thus elect their representatives and build legal democratic institutions. We as the CEC have already stated all measures, in co-operation with the police, for this process to go right, for quietness, to open the polls, all are steps as long as it is before and everything has gone according to plan. We're hoping the whole process will end peacefully. I still want to call on citizens to come out to vote as massive as possible and elect their representatives”, he said.
Radoniqi was asked how many people have voted so far.
“Right now I can't say, but as far as I could understand at this polling center, about 60 persons -- ” -- said he,
Journalists have reported not being allowed to film within polling stations.
Let's be clear, there's no order not to leave the media. The media are free to receive footage at polling stations and from containers. There's been a confusion between the doracac, but everything is clear now. We haven't given orders, there's no order to get away from the media, maybe there's a mistake”, he said.
The head of the CEC said that according to information that has “security is on” level.
“Containers have been a more suitable solution given the circumstances that have been created. I don't believe the use of containers will be an obstacle to the vote. Citizens are free, they have access to these polling stations, containers. It is possible that the CEC offers citizens to vote through containers”, he said.
