A power struggle between the Sudanan army and a notorious paramilitary force has shaken the country, with more than 50 civilians reportedly dead.
Residents avoided shooting in the capital, Khartoum, while rival forces fought over presidential palace, state television and army headquarters, reports the BBC.
25 people, including 17 civilians, have died in the city, and 595 people have been wounded. The clashes erupted after tensions over a proposed transition to civilian rule.
Both the army and its opponents, the Fast Support Forces (RSF), claimed to have control of the airport and other key locations in Khartoum, where fighting continued overnight.
The heavy artillery was heard in Omdurman, climbing on Khartoum, and near Bahri in the early hours of Sunday morning. Eyewitnesses also reported gunshots at Port Sudan Red Sea.
The military said the planes were hitting RSF bases and the country's Air Force told people to stay in their homes on Saturday evening, while conducting a full air study of paramilitary activity.
