The Chinese spying balloon that passed transit to the US earlier this year was able to capture images and gather some intelligence signals from American military countries, says a familiar source with the CNN issue.
Ballona was able to transmit information in Beijing in real time, the source said, and the American government still does not know for sure if the Chinese government could erase the balloon data after receiving it.
The United States also knew what the balloon road would be and was able to protect sensitive sites and censor certain signals before the balloon was able to take them, officials said.
The intelligence committee has not been overly concerned about the information the balloon was able to collect.
The FBI is still examining the balloon, but so far officials have been able to collect additional information about how the device worked, including algorithms used for balloon software and how it is empowered and designed.
NBC was the first to report on new intelligence.
The balloon first moved into US airspace over Alaska in late January and eventually collapsed from the US to the East Coast on February 4th. The incident further escalated tensions between Washington and Beijing and prompted US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to postpone a diplomatic visit to China.
