Chinese fighter jets fly around Taiwan

Taiwan's Defence Ministry said Friday that 38 Chinese fighter aircraft and a pilot-free jet, TB-001, had flown around the island. Recent maneuvers may be the biggest Beijing has ever organized.
They are widely viewed as an attempt to intimidate Taiwan.
Earlier this month, China carried out major military maneuvers around Taiwan, in response to President Tsai Ing-wan's meeting with the President of the United States House of Representatives, Kevin McCarty in California.
China opposes holding every official meeting with Taiwan.
China says Taiwan is its territory and has threatened to annex it by force, if necessary. Beijing and Taipei were divided in 1949 after a civil war.
Taiwan says China has never governed the island and that only 23 million people on the island have the right to decide for their future.
