China hopes Germany will support its peaceful “reunification” with Taiwan

Wang Yi, Chinese chief diplomat, made comments in a statement shared by the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Saturday, saying he “hopes and believes the European country will back its peaceful “reunification” with Taiwan.

During a meeting with German Foreign Minister Annalena Backock in China, Wang said China once supported Germany's reunification.

“to maintain stability in Taiwan's Strait, it is necessary to strongly reject separatist activities related to Taiwan's independence”, Wang said.

Wang added that Taiwan's “conversion to China” was an important part of the post-World War II international order.

Backock said Friday that any attempt by China to gain Taiwan's control would have serious consequences for Europe.
