Challenge of Challenge Ahead of Ohrid Agreement Monitoring Committee

The May 2nd meeting between Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, is expected to pave the way for the functioning of the Monitoring Committee for the Ohrid Agreement. The work of this committee, which was founded yesterday by the European Union, is projected to face difficult challenges. On the other hand, however, such meetings are assessed positively for easing the sides' positions.
No easy work is expected to have the mechanism established by the European Union on Tuesday for monitoring the implementation of the Ohrid Agreement.
Kosovo will represent Ambassador Agron Bajrami there, while Serbia is chief negotiator Petar Petkoviq.
But, taken into account Serbia's so-called attitudes and actions, the recognition of the dialogue process expects difficulties in the work of the Joint Committee.
I believe there will be extremely difficult challenges, but at the end of the day it depends on the approach and determination of the European Union. If the European Union is determined to implement the agreement as a whole on both sides remains to be seen. But the first steps are not very promising”, said Dritaro Arifi, professor of international relations.
The establishment of this committee in the final hours of the deadline, according to Arifi, shows the EU's inconsistencies and demonstrates the uncertainties that exist on many issues about the agreement.
Members of the team led by the EU will be responsible to measure the level of implementation of the agreement on the sides.
Despite the challenges, political sociologist Artan Mustafa's legalist, says positive is the fact of holding meetings.
According to him, this creates a climate of trust that then contributes to stability.
“Passy does not have a very great will, a determination, commitment to the leaders of the two countries that are interested and want to end disputes with Kosovo, then these meetings, even though they do not finally solve the problem, at least in this decade as you mentioned it, contribute symbolically to the preservation of peace”, has declared Artan Mustafa, legalising political solidarity.
Reference terms are expected to be finalised and approved at the first meeting of the Committee, which will take place after the upcoming meeting between leaders Albin Kurti and Aleksandar Vuciq, which is scheduled to be held 2 May in Brussels. /Dukagini
