He said postponing the elections is the option of those who think that now it is better for the north to be transformed into crisis management area, rather than entering a process of normalising the reports.
Bislimi argued that the main protagonist seeking to postpone the elections is Aleksandar Vuciq.
“The elections are the foundation of democracy and in a real democracy are state institutions that set deadlines for maintaining them. In this case, elections in northern Kosovo, have the will of political parties to be participants in the elections, this will is lacking only by a political subject. Postponing is not a good option, it is the option of those who think that at this moment it is better for the north to become a crisis management area rather than enter a process of normalisation of reports. At the moment, the leading protagonist seeking to postpone elections is Mr. Vuciq, who also requires concessions for participating in the elections. ”, Bislimi said among other things during an interview for the Voice of America.
Regarding elections in the north, Blerim Vela, chief of Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani's cabinet, said Serbia's President Aleksandar Vuciq is continuing to (bad) use the Serbian List to fuel tensions in Kosovo. Vela argued that Vuciq is seeking to block the April 23rd elections in the north.
While, Serbia's President Aleksandar Vuciq during Thursday's meeting with Kosovo Serbs in Rakes called on them to be united in the decision not to come to the polls on April 23rd in the four northern municipalities.
We remember that, days ago, the Serbian List, which has led with the four northern municipalities, has shown it will not participate in the elections, according to them, until the formation of the Serb majority municipalities' association.
In the April 23rd elections, 11 candidates will compete for mayors of four municipalities in the north, where only two of them are from the Serb community.
The extraordinary local elections will be held in the north following the resignation of the mayors of northern Mitrovica municipalities, Leposaviqi, Zvecan and Zubin Potok. The mayors of these municipalities resigned in November 2022 due to the government's decision on illegal Serbian plates.
The elections in the north were originally scheduled for December 18th of 2022, but they were postponed after incidents by Serbian criminal groups against KKZ officials and the inability to organise them.
