After praising the excellent relations of strategic partnership between the two countries, Begaj underlined the irreplaceable role of the United States of America for ensuring peace and security in the Western Balkan region.

In particular, Begaj praised the support the United States and personally Mr. Escobar have given to the negotiation process between Kosovo and Serbia mediated by the European Union.

“Normising relations between Kosovo and Serbia, with their mutual recognition at centre, is a process of great regional influence, both within security aspects and its sustainable development”, Begaj underlined.

By focusing on the challenges and threats facing the Western Balkans region, following Russian military aggression in Ukraine, Begaj also underlined that “due to the new geopolitical approach even from the European Union, today we have increased attention to this region”.

Special attention during the meeting took on the issue of cyber security and hybrid threats. Begaj expressed gratitude for the support and assistance of specialised American agencies, considering them of vital and crucial importance for Albania's increased capabilities and cyber skills.
